Background

The Standards and Labeling programme launched by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) specifies the Minimum Efficiency Performance Standards (MEPS) for energy consuming appliances and devices towards conserving precious energy. The labeling programme of air conditioners involves star labeling – the appliance manufacturers grade their appliances based on the level of energy efficiency it offers to the customers and also prominently display the BEE star label on the product. The star label ranges from 1 Star (minimum efficiency level) to 5 star (highest efficiency level).

Objective & Campaign Brief

For conservation of energy, BEE prefers customers opting for highest efficiency appliances as it saves energy for customers & country as a whole. The first point of contact for customers is the salesmen at showrooms, on whom they depend for getting required information on labeling. BEE realized this fact & has set up a Channel education programme in India, to educate salesmen on AC star labeling concept & equip them with necessary sales tools to promote higher star labeled appliances.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency in association with Emerson Climate Technologies, International Copper Promotion Council (India) & ISHRAE started all India showroom campaign from January 2011. The campaign is being executed by ISHRAE student chapter's members preferably mechanical engineering students from 33 cities in India. As a procedure, engineering students receive training on AC star labeling & there after students go & teach AC showroom salesmen at shop floor. We use standard methodology to execute the processes involved in the campaign. For more details on execution steps, please go through Showroom Salesman Training Guidebook section.
